I’m Going to Be an Author

October 23rd, 2006 LaRosa Johnson 2 comments

Yeah, I’m going to be an author. Well, considering I write devotions and reviews on my site, I guess you could already consider me an author. Plus, back in 5th grade I had a haiku poem (along wtih a drawing of an eagle) published in a local publication showcasing the writing abilities of local area youth. But this is on a bigger scale than all of that stuff; I’m going to make my first attempt at writing a full length book.
I don’t know why it’s taken me so long to get to this point, but I finally feel like I’m ready to write and publish my first work. Over at Trailblazin Ministries, I’ve been doing a devotion series focusing on the armor of God and its practical application in our everyday lives. Well, Friday, while I was on lunch and sitting in the drive-thru at Chik-fil-A waiting to order my lunch, the idea came to me to write a book that really goes in-depth into the subject. While writing the devotions, there were so many things that I wanted to say and touch on that I couldn’t even begin to hit on in the devotion, for obvious reasons (length). So, I’m going to write a book and really expound on the subject and get this out there for the Body of Christ.
With that being said, God already has His hands all over this. I’ve already found an author (a close friend of mine who did editing work at her previous job) and a place where I can get it published at a minimal cost. So, I’m going to most likely be spending the remainder of this year researching and outlining the book, and then begin the process of writing it in the beginning of 2007, if not sooner. I’m not sure how long it’s going to take me to write the book, but it’s going to be thorough and bring out a lot of biblical truth in regards to the armor of God and the beginning stages of waging spiritual warfare.
As soon as the book is done, it’ll definitely be available for purchase (in paperback or several e-book formats) and all proceeds will go to furthering Trailblazin Ministries and what it is that God has me doing there.
I truly feel that this is of God and I’m excited about it more than I’ve ever been in the past about doing something like this. I also think that once this first book is done, it’ll only be the beginning of me authoring and publishing more books. It’s already in the back of my mind to publish both a book of poetry (psalms) and devotions. All in due time, and this is the start.
Keep this endeavor in prayer as I already know that I’m probably going to encounter many attacks while I try to get this out there. In all things, Christ will be glorified. I’ll be sure to give out more information as it becomes available, such as progess updates, excerpts, and press releases.

I’ve Been Tagged

Okay, so I was checking out Jesse’s blog yesterday only to find out that I’ve been tagged/challenged to take this little quiz. Anyway, after much thought (I think), here are my answers.

  1. One book that changed your life:
Dialogue With God by Mark & Patti Virkler
  2. One book that you’ve read more than once:
The God Chasers by Tommy Tenney
  3. One book you

Hacking Movable Type

March 2nd, 2006 LaRosa Johnson 2 comments

Hacking Movable TypeJust got this fantastic & must have book in the mail today. This is the book that I had wanted to purchase for my birthday, but my local store didn’t have it. I finally ordered it from Books-A-Million’s website and got it in the mail today via UPS. I can’t wait to crack this book open and see what goodies it has to offer.
Since I’m signed up as a part of Movable Type’s Professional Network, I figured that I had to have this book since so many of the developers highly recommend it. Maybe I can learn my way around Perl/CGI and start writing my own plugins for MT. I definitely feel that this book will be useful as I start to build more sites using Movable Type, using it as both a blogging tool and content management system.
I’ll blog more on this book later…

It Feels Good

Yesterday I finished reading Rediscovering the Kingdom: Ancient Hope for Our 21st Century World by Myles Munroe. On many levels, it was very refreshing and rejuvenating! First of all, it felt very good to be able to finish a book. I can honestly say that it is the first time in quite a while that I’ve actually finished reading an entire book within a short period of time. I probably read about 100 pages yesterday to finish out the book (and I’m a fairly slow reader). Secondly, the content that Dr. Munroe had in his book was spiritually reviving! It awoke some things in my spirit that were just… wow! It really opened up my eyes to several areas of the Spirit: he opened my eyes to what the Kingdom of God truly is, our role in the Kingdom, and about what we are to really be preaching (the Kingdom of God). I mean, until reading this book, I had never really had that great an understanding of what it meant to be a kingly priest in the Kingdom of God, but now I have a greater understanding & appreciation for the Kingdom. It even makes me want to refocus the goal and purpose of Jesus4Life Ministries; I want to make sure that I’m primarily focused on preaching the Kingdom of God as gospel, instead of just Jesus or the other areas of ministry.
After I finished reading that book, I was still on a reading high, so I picked back up a book I hadn’t finished reading just yet. For my birthday this year (back in February), Robin had bought me The Case for a Creator by Lee Strobel. I had gotten through the first six chapters of the book, and I was highly intrigued by the material, as it is definitely my kind of book. Why? It deals with all of my favorite areas of study: 1) apologetics and 2) science. Anyway, I picked back up with chapter seven last night and read about 15 pages and it was like I had never put the book down. I’ve only got about 100 pages left, so I’m hoping that I can either finish it today, or early this week.
After that, I’ve got another book I need to finish reading. That book is a historical fiction work titled Jesus: An Interview Across Time by Andrew Hodges. It’s a very nice piece of fictional work; but reading it, you almost get the sense that Jesus is actually the one speaking in the interview. After I finish it, I’ll let you know whether or not I recommend it.
Until later, peace!
