Movable Type 4.0ish

July 28th, 2007 LaRosa Johnson

Upgraded and ready to go! I just got finished installing Movable Type 4.0 (RC1) and upgrading from MT 3.3. It was interesting (and fun) getting this system up and running. Because it was a beta, there were a few weird problems here and there, but overall it was a rather painless experience. All of my templates carried over with very few changes needed (except for the comment form), so that made the experience that much easier.
From a user standpoint, things aren’t any different for you. The only difference you may notice is the commenting system, as you can now register for an account or comment anonymously (with image verification to slow down spammers). I would personally prefer that you register, as it will allow you to view/see/do other things in the future as I further expand on the site.
From an administrative standpoint, I absolutely love it, even though it’s dramatically different. There are now pages (so standalone pages no longer need to be placed under categories & such) which can be managed differently than the primary portion of the site (think: about me page vs. devotions or music reviews). There are also user roles, which finally allows me to give my writers/staff the opportunity to directly input their articles into the system without having to go through me.
Overall, I’m very impressed with the new system and I look forward to making this site better as a result of it all. I’ll try to post more later about my experience with the brand spankin’ new MT 4.0

Glad you’ve got such a positive impression of MT4, Larosa! As we get closer to the official release, it’s been really energizing for the whole team to see such great feedback from the community, and I just wanted to let you know we appreciated you taking the time to write it up.
