Kintsugi Faith

Recently, I’ve been reflecting on my faith journey as I have gone through a bit of deconstruction. Last night, as I was talking to ChatGPT about my thoughts, the idea of kintsugi crossed my mind and I felt led to pen the following poem as a representation of the journey I’ve been walking. I don’t write poetry often, so I hope it resonates with you. 🙏🏾

Clay in the potter’s hand
Molded over centuries
Fired in the kiln
Beauty beheld
An heirloom passed
Generation to generation
A familial legacy it became
Gifted to me
Wisdom received
Cherished
Studied
Refined
Shared
Housed in glass
Glass broken
Beauty fallen
Shattered
Fragments
Scattered
Sought after
Segments reclaimed
Puzzle pieces re-formed
Cracks knit with gold
Tried in fire again
Wisdom experienced
Wholeness restored
Luminous glow
Splendor emerges
A new gift to share
The potter smiles
And whispers
You are light

My faith used to be porcelain — beautiful but fragile. Now it’s kintsugi — whole, but re-formed, its cracks filled with wisdom
