What if the Prosperity Gospel isn’t completely wrong?
I know… that’s probably not something you’d expect to hear from someone with a Reformed theological background. But after years of studying scripture, exploring neuroscience, and diving into quantum physics, my perspective has shifted. And I think it’s time we had a more nuanced conversation.
Let’s unpack this through three lenses: what the Prosperity Gospel actually teaches, what science is now revealing, and where I personally land after digging deep into both.
My Faith Journey & the Prosperity Gospel
I grew up immersed in churches that preached the Prosperity Gospel, which is the belief that God wants you to be healthy, wealthy, and successful. It is through lens of faith and positive thinking that they believe miracles and transformation can happen.
Verses like:
- For as he thinks in his heart, so is he. (Proverbs 23:7 NKJV)
- Be transformed by the renewing of your mind (Romans 12:2)
- Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers (3 John 1:2)
…are the cornerstone of that theology. Add to that the words of Yeshua — speaking of faith that moves mountains — and it’s easy to believe that your thoughts and declarations could literally shape your reality.
For a while, I believed it too. But as I matured in my faith and dove deeper into Scripture, I began to challenge that framework. Reformed theology offered me a more grounded hermeneutic… one that emphasized suffering, sovereignty, and spiritual growth over material gain.
Still, even then, I never wrote off everyone who held to Prosperity teaching. I know sincere believers who love Yeshua deeply and live lives of radical faith. The theology may have flaws, but their hearts were genuine.
What Science Is Revealing About Belief & Reality
Fast forward to the past few years and my curiosity has taken me beyond the boundaries of traditional theology. I’ve been reading books like:
- The Power of the Subconscious Mind by Joseph Murphy
- Becoming Supernatural by Dr. Joe Dispenza
- Why We Meditate by Daniel Goleman and Tsoknyi Rinpoche
- Teachings on Quantum Human Design by Karen Curry Parker
- Among others…
At first, I read with skepticism. But over time, I couldn’t deny what I was learning, especially when I began seeing the effects in my own life. For example, my business didn’t start flourishing until I did serious inner work: confronting limiting beliefs, shifting my mindset, and aligning with the person I wanted to become.
Then I watched the Source documentary, which is a deep dive into the science behind Joe Dispenza’s meditation retreats. The results were jaw-dropping.
Participants (some new to meditation, some seasoned) experienced:
- Regenerated thyroids
- Cancer remission
- Physical healing
- Improved HRV and EEG scans
- Measurable changes in brain, blood, and body
All without drugs. Just through meditation, belief, and resonance. Religion calls some of these miracles.
Quantum physics helps explain this. Atoms are mostly empty space (like 99.999999% empty). This seemingly empty space is taken up by the electron cloud and it contains energy and information. It’s a frequency that makes it way into the material world. Through meditation, the brain and heart sync in frequency, allowing that energetic frequency to shift. When the frequency shifts, new possibilities from the quantum field can come into reality.
I like the way Dr. Dispenza explains it…
We live our lives on mental autopilot. The familiarity of our past causes us to do the same thing day in and day out. This, in turn, leads to a very predictable future (e.g. more of the same).
Nothing changes until we disrupt the pattern.
That’s the power of aligning our mind and spirit with something greater. Science is catching up to what faith has taught all along: belief changes things.
So… What Do I Believe Now?
Here’s where I’ve landed:
I still believe in miracles. I still believe in Scripture. And I have deepened my belief that the unseen world, whether you call it spirit, energy, or quantum field, is real and transformative.
We are not just physical beings. We are energetic, spiritual creations with the capacity to change, heal, and co-create with God.
So if the Prosperity Gospel says, “Believe and it will be done,” maybe that’s not as far-fetched as I once thought. The science backs it. The Bible teaches it (when interpreted through a balanced lens). And my own life reflects it. As well as the lives of so many others.
Am I saying the Prosperity Gospel gets everything right? Absolutely not. But I am saying: it might not have gotten everything wrong either.
What do you believe?
I’m not looking to debate, but I’d love to have a conversation, especially if you’re open to exploring how faith and science can work together to bring healing, wholeness, and transformation.
Let’s move beyond familiar frameworks… into the unknown.
Because sometimes, the unpredictable doesn’t disappoint.
Grace and peace.
