Have you ever found yourself confronted with the reality of who you are, and then have it alter the trajectory of your life? That happened to me two years ago when I came across this thing called Human Design. As I was perusing my Facebook memories, I was given an opportunity to reflect on this journey. In this post, I’ll share how I went from thinking that Human Design was just woo-woo nonsense… to feeling like I’d found a spiritual roadmap written just for me. And if you’re open to it, I think it can do the same for you.

How It All Started: Dismissal and Skepticism
Like any good story, let’s start at the beginning. So let me set the scene…
I don’t remember the date, but I believe it was at some point in 2022. My business coach brought in a guest for one of our group coaching calls. Before the call, we were all asked to fill out this form on a website and to bring the chart it gave us to the call. The form had us enter our birth date, time, and location.
I got mine and had no clue what I was looking at. But I figured it would all make sense on the call.
The call didn’t help. All I can remember is a bunch of spiritual woo-woo talk about how this related to astrology and could tell us a lot about our personalities in a much better way than the Enneagram or any other personality tests. I walked away more confused than when I started. None of it resonated with me and it all sounded like a bunch of nonsense. But everyone else on the call was eating it up. After the call, I put the PDF of my chart in a folder on my hard drive and forgot all about it.
I thought that would be the last I would ever hear of this thing called Human Design. Boy, was I wrong…
A Surprise Reintroduction
Fast forward to July 18, 2023.
I’m minding my own business and doing my thing on YouTube trying to learn something new. At the time I was struggling to get some videos recorded for my business and I was toying with the idea of writing a full script and using a teleprompter. That search landed me on Amanda Horvath’s channel. She had a handful of great videos on the subject that gave me the clarity I needed.
After watching several videos, I found myself really loving her vibe. So, I decided to check out her channel and see what else I could find that was interesting. It was there that I stumbled across a video titled “What is Human Design (Simplified for Beginners)” and something inside me said, “Go watch that!”
So, that’s what I did.
From there I was introduced to a playlist of videos on using Human Design for business. I binged those videos and all of a sudden I was intrigued by this system. What used to be complete nonsense was now making sense and piquing my interest.
And down the rabbit hole I went… binging everything on her channel related to the subject.
Into the Looking Glass

At that same time, I remembered the chart I created for that coaching call. I pulled it out and looked at it again. That’s truly when everything changed.
For the first time, the words on the chart actually landed. So I started Googling what my chart meant. What exactly is a manifesting generator? What does it mean that I have emotional authority? What does it mean that I’m a role model & hermit (6/2 profile)? What’s this signature, not-self, and strategy all about?
I devoured everything I could find for free online. The more I read, the more light bulbs started turning on in my head. I felt seen. I felt understood in ways you couldn’t imagine.
It was like holding up a mirror to the last 40+ years of my life.
That is genuinely what it felt like.
But how?
All I did was put my birth data in a chart and it showed me who I was… who God designed to be. My chart described my life & personality in intimate detail.
Without those 40 years of lived experience as proof, I would not have believed it. I would have continued looking at it like some woo-woo thing or like the horoscope in the newspaper.
But this changed everything…
The Deep Dive Begins
At that point, I was hooked. I read as many books as I could get my hands on. I read books like…
- Understanding Human Design & The Human Design Workbook (Karen Curry Parker)
- Human Design for Business (Jamie Palmer)
- The Definitive Book of Human Design (Lynda Bunnell)
- Just to name a few…
Then I started to look for things specific to being a generator & manifesting generator. That’s when I was introduced to the worlds of Danielle Gardner and Rachel Lieberman.
Danielle has a blog all about this thing she calls “quiet marketing.” The concept spoke to my soul and she had a bundle of tiny courses on how to do it as a generator & MG. So I purchased the course and started diving deeper.
Rachel runs a website called Pure Generators that is, you guessed it, all about living as a generator or MG. I loved the content on her website and it became my home for learning how to live in my design. Everything was so practical and easy to read. Plus, when I found her, she was about to release her book A Modern Guide to Human Design, which is hands down my favorite beginner-friendly book for HD. I eventually signed up for her “Glow Up” community to learn more and be around other people like myself.
Then I finally decided to reach out to Amanda, the person who got me started in all this stuff. I booked a Human Design reading with her, and she blew my mind with all the things she was able to tell me about myself simply from reading my chart. It was on this call that I was also introduced to Human Design’s “cousin” called the Gene Keys. But that’s a whole other can of worms for another day.
All of that led to more courses, more connections, and continued learning.
At that point, my journey moved from information to transformation. No longer was I just reading about Human Design, I was actively living my experiment.
What’s Changed Since Then?
Everything!
I feel like I have become a new person since learning about my unique Human Design.
How I make decisions has changed. Now I know I need to slow down when it’s time to make big decisions. I’ve also learned that if something isn’t a “hell yeah” for me, then it’s not an opportunity I need to pursue. With that, I’ve gotten better at letting opportunities come my way, instead of trying to make things happen on my own.
It has also brought greater alignment in my life. I find myself more satisfied and less frustrated with life because I’m living according to my design. I can look at my past and see why things played out the way they did. Whenever I was in alignment things tended to go well and I made great decisions. But I can also reflect on times when I was out of alignment and how those left me frustrated. Those are lessons I’ve brought into the present for a more peaceful life.
Human Design has also given me greater insight on how I interact with others. This has had a positive impact on my family and business relationships because now I know which energy is mine and what is coming from others.
Ultimately, I feel like my life has greater purpose and meaning as a result of learning who I am. I’m shedding the old me that lived against my design, and am living in greater alignment with each passing day.
Human Design Can Change Your Life
I didn’t expect to become that guy who talks about Human Design, yet here I am. And, you know what? I wouldn’t change a thing. It’s been one of the most transformative journeys of my life and I’m glad I listened to that inner nudge and went down the rabbit hole. My only regret is not learning about it sooner.
I know this has been all about me and how Human Design has changed my life, but it’s not just about me. It can have a similar impact in your life. If you’re curious, even a little, I urge you to lean into that. Click the button below and get your own chart. I’ll even send you a few emails explaining your chart to you. You never know what might hold the key to your next chapter.
Lastly, if you want to learn more about Human Design, I encourage you to check out the books mentioned above (start with A Modern Guide to Human Design), subscribe to Amanda’s “Frequency of Self” YouTube channel, and, if you feel so inclined, get a reading from her. And, of course, if you want a cozy place where you can discuss these things, be sure to check out the Living Room, my free private community.
